The science of Biotechnology has tremendous potential for application in agriculture and medicine. The linkage between basic and applied research and new discoveries and innovations can find direct applications in agriculture and human health. The breakthroughs in modern biotechnology mainly include our ability to produce useful organisms through genetic engineering and cell fusion techniques and improve bioprocess technology to purify novel molecules generated by such processes. It also involves targeting drugs , development of delivery systems and vaccines. Considering this background, the syllabus document is essentially to be formulated which focused on diverse areas from Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Genetics with significant laboratory practices which will enable the students to have hands on experience in doing experiments themselves.

 

Objectives

The science of Biotechnology is very multifarious and complex involving basic and applied sciences closely. The syllabus documents must reflect all the priorities areas to formulate an effective document to guide future research in the next decade.

 

Duration

4 Semesters (2 years).Semester – I : ( Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Analytical techniques in Biology, Biochemistry Laboratory and Microbiology and Genetics Laboratory. Supportive courses on Communication Skill and for students who would not have read Mathematics in their class 12 Mathematics for Biologists and Physics for Biologists and those who would not have read biology in class 12 Biology-1 And 2 Total credit-24) Semester – II : ( Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Computational Biology and And Biostatistics. Enzymology,Virology, Biosafety and IPR issues, Immunology and Cell Biology Laboratory and Molecular Biology and Enzymology Laboratory. Total credit 24)

 

Eligibility

A candidate possessing B.Sc. degree with minimum 60 marks with Biotechnology/ Chemistry/ Microbiology/Botany/Zoology/B.Pharm/B.Sc.Agriculture/Life Sciences as main subject and have passed the entrance examination shall be held eligible for admission to M.Sc. course in biotechnology.

 

Admission

Through Entrance Examination to be conducted on all-India basis.
