Integrated M.Sc. Programme V & VI Semester Syllabus



Department of Biochemistry is at the heart of this University and provides a feather to the University by offering tremendous potential in basic as well as applied sciences. Department of Biochemistry, Central University of Rajasthan came into existence in July 2012 under the School of Life Sciences. The mandates of the department are to undertake post-graduate teaching, enable students to compete in national/ international scholarship examinations e.g. CSIR & UGC NET-JRF, ICMR-JRF, GATE, Abroad PhD entrance exam etc. The department also envisions extending in the field of biochemical broad areas which includes Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, Proteomics, Infectious Diseases, Biophysics, Cancer Biology, Glycobiology and Bioinformatics. The department is boosted by highly qualified young talented faculties with postdoctoral research experiences from United States of America and other countries, and PhD training from prestigious Institutions/Universities like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur; University of Hyderabad and Banaras Hindu University. The Department of Biochemistry has enough facilities and strong capabilities to run the department smoothly with an average 25 students of each section such as Post-graduation program & integrated M.Sc. program. Students of 1st and 2nd Semester of master program get versatile exposure in different biological subjects since these two semesters are also regulated by School of Life Sciences, which is also composed by other two departments; Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology. Department of Biochemistry offers 2-6 students for PhD program in each year in focused areas of respective faculties. All students in any sections including PhD get admitted through all India basis CUCET examinations. Our class rooms are well decorated with modern facilities for teaching which includes LED projector, white board, regular board and digital board. Faculties often use to teach students using all these facilities and faculty also provides all the soft copy study materials to the students on their common students email ID provided by the University.  


To ignite young minds, from different backgrounds, to understand the world of biochemical reactions through application based learning. This learning would develop their reasoning power and train them for future career in research as well qualify highly competitive national level examination like CSIR-UGC NET, ICMR and GATE.

•To provide high quality teaching to the students through traditional classroom teaching as well as varied exposure to audio-visual aids and hands on training on various aspects of biochemistry and allied biological subjects. More emphasis is given on understanding the subject rather than rote learning.

•The students are also encouraged to broaden their potential by opting for extra audit courses offered by other departments.

•Department is also offering doctoral studies related to various aspects of Biochemistry


4 Semesters (2 years)-

Course Structure:

Semester- I: (Biochemistry; Genetics; Microbiology; Analytical techniques in Biology; Biochemistry Laboratory; Microbiology and Genetics Laboratory; Supportive courses like Communication Skill, Mathematics, Physics for Biologists, Biology-1 and Biology-2 for those who would not have read related subject in their 12th standard . Total credit-24)

Semester-II: (Cell Biology; Molecular Biology; Immunology; Computational Biology and Biostatistics; Enzymology; Virology; Biosafety and IPR issues; Immunology and Cell Biology Laboratory; Molecular Biology and Enzymology Laboratory. Total credit 24)

Semester-III: (Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Clinical Biochemistry, Plant Biochemistry and Physiology, Advanced Techniques, Human Physiology and Endocrinology, Project, Journal club presentation, laboratory of biotechnology, bioinformatics, clinical and plant biochemistry. Total credit 24)

Semester-IV: (Industrial Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biostatistics, Environmental Biochemistry, Neurobiochemistry and cell signalling and cancer biology, Seminar, Project, Project Presentation, principles and practices of management or entrepreneurship theories and practices or marketing management, Total credit 24)


Candidates who have passed bachelor level examination in Botany/ Zoology/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Genetics/ Medicine/ Agriculture/ Life Sciences/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Pharmacy/ Mathematics from any recognized university in India or abroad or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate (45 % marks in case of SC/ST students). .


Through entrance examination conducted on all-India basis i.e. CUCET.
