The Department of Atmospheric Science was established in 2016 under the School of Earth Sciences. It offers both M. Sc. and Ph. D. programs. The objectives of the programs are to promote interdisciplinary research in science and technology. It encompasses numerical modeling of atmosphere and ocean, climate modeling, monsoons, and high impact severe weather forecasting to understand its physical and social consequences. The department is developing collaborations at National and International levels.

Instrumentation Facilities: Department has state of art facilities like meteorological observatory (Anemometer, Barometer, Pyranometer, Lightning Detectors), Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory (Gas Chromatography with thermal desorption,, portable ozone analyzer, aethalometer), Computation and Simulation Laboratory (High end workstations with server)

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in any discipline of science /Engineering (Physics  as one of the core subject) with minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate for general category and 45% or equivalent grade in aggregate for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS candidates

Doctor of Philosophy

Eligibility (2023-24): A consistently good academic record possessing a M.Sc./MTech. in Atmospheric Science / Meteorology / Oceanography / Marine Science / Geophysics / Mathematics / Physics / Statistics/ Environmental Science / Remote Sensing / Computer Science/Climate Sciences/Agriculture/Water Resources with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized University at Master’s Degree; At Bachelor’s Degree (B. Sc or BE/B. Tech), student must have either Physics or Mathematics as a subject with 50% marks. 5% relaxation in minimum requirement of marks is granted to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS candidates.
