The Department of Statistics is one of the first two departments started along with Mathematics by Central University of Rajasthan and started its programme in academic year 2009. The main goal of the department is to impart quality education and promote theoretical, computational and applied knowledge in the subjects of Statistics, which enables the students to pursue their future careers either in the field academic, insurance firms or broadly in analytics industry. The department is actively engaged in teaching and research addressing substantive problems in the field of Actuarial Science, Bayesian Statistics, Distribution theory, Extreme Value Theory, Inference, Sampling Theory, Statistical Quality Control, Survival Analysis, Time Series Analysis and more. Department is offering good opportunity for the employment and alumni of the department who are working in government sector like ISS, RPSC etc, as well as reputed private organizations like SWISS Re, Edgewise Tokyo, KPMG, Sri Ram Finance, WNS Consultancy, The Rain Man Consultancy, Max Life Insurance, AON Hewitt Actuarial Consultancy, Nelson Private Ltd. etc. The faculties are active in executing research projects in collaboration with UGC, CSIR, and MOSPI etc.

M. Sc./M. A. Statistics

Programme Objective:

The main objective of M.Sc. in Statistics Programme is to enhance the theoretical, practical skills and concepts that students have been introduced to some extent at their undergraduate learning of Statistics. We teach higher level theoretical aspects and practicals as well which help them to formulate statistical problems and analyze them by using appropriate statistical methods and Statistical computing software. The course content and classroom teaching and evaluation system emphasize the applications of Statistics in different disciplines including Actuarial Science, Social Science by which they will have better job opportunities and as well they are well prepared for competitive examinations.

 

Learning outcome of this program,

After the completion of Integrated M.Sc. programme, students will:

  • Learn advanced level basic concepts and statistical inference used in decision making which help them in their higher studies and solve involved decision-making problems.
  • Learn the art of gathering information by sampling and designing experiments and analyzing it
  • Be able to assist researchers for drawing inferences using their experimental outcomes
  • Be able to develop and validate models on the basis of collected data.

 

Eligibility:

An undergraduate student having B.Sc./B.A. in Statistics/Mathematics with 

  1. Statistics as a subject for a minimum of two years in annual system  or
  2. have a minimum of 4 papers from core Statistics as prescribed in the model curriculum of UGC in the semester system

and should have a minimum of 50% marks in the graduation, provided that the candidate has 45% or equivalent grade for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

Integrated M. Sc. Statistics

Programme Objective:

The main objective of Integrated M.Sc. in Statistics programme in CURaj is to facilitate higher secondary passed students to learn, practice and make career in the art of information analysis for the purpose of decision making on concerned problems. Analysis can be done by using well accepted principle and scientific methods developed in Statistics. As these students have chosen the statistics at an early stage of their learning, they have an opportunity of better understanding fundamentals of statistics and equip themselves to work as a professional statistician. Training in statistical computing will enhance their job opportunities and professional skills.

 

Learning outcome of this Programme:

After the completion of Integrated M.Sc. programme, students will:

  • Learn the art of representing and dealing with a random phenomenon
  • Learn basic principles and statistical concepts used in decision making
  • Learn the art of gathering information by sampling and designing experiments and analyzing it
  • Be able to assist researchers for drawing inferences using their experimental outcomes
  • Be able to develop and validate models on the basis of collected data

 

Eligibility

10 + 2 in Science Stream or equivalent of any recognized board in India with Mathematics as one of the optional subjects having 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate for general category and 45% or equivalent grade for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

Doctor of Philosophy

The Ph.D. Programme is the research programme in the respective subject, as such students have to be well acquainted with various research methodologies including the current state of art of development in the concerned subject. In view of it, Ph.D. programme offered by the department of Statistics offers research methodology and recent trends in statistics as compulsory subjects.

 

Objective: The main objective of to make students aware of various methods of research in statistics and use them in their specific research topic.

 

Learning Outcomes.:

Upon getting acquainted with the various research method and recent trends/development in the statistics, students will be well equipped to make substantial research contribution to the topic of their specialization.

 

Eligibility:

A consistently good academic record possessing a Master's Degree in Statistics (M. Sc./M.A. in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Bio-Statistics/Statistics and informatics/Statistical computing) with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade from a recognized University at both undergraduate and postgraduate level; 5% relaxation in minimum requirement of marks is granted to SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

Placements

The Department of Statistics not only provides placement assistance to the students in the relevant organization but it also helps the students in their career planning, preparation for selection tests, summer placement/internship and final placements. The Placement Cell of University is working on liaisoning with the senior executives of reputed organizations for the overall development of effective communication links with many prominent industrial and professional organizations. The placement cell is making all the efforts to match the student's career aspirations with the requirements of the organizations. Keeping in view the demand and priorities of the various industries, the cell is also looking for the development of the students. Following are few Multi-National Companies and Government Agencies where the students are places: 

 

StatAct Club

The department organizes activities for enhancing the basic concepts of the subject. The activities involve STATQUIZ and STATFORUM.
Under STATQUIZ, a weekly Brain Enhancement Quiz is conducted for the students. The quiz comprises of questions relevant to reasoning, mathematics, and statistics.

Another activity held by the department is STATFORUM. The forum emphasizes discussions relevant to Statistical methodologies and its interface with Economics and Finance. The discussions are held among the students and are concluded by the comments made by the faculty members.
In accordance with the celebration of “World Statistics Day”, a university level quiz competition is organized every year. The quiz is conducted in several groups according to the respective schools. The main aim of the quiz is to make the students aware of the importance of statistics in their respective subjects. The winners of the quiz are awarded books on statistical applications in the relevant fields.
