The department was established in 2012. The department runs very innovative Masters and Ph. D. Programs which introduce students to the study of policy-making and implementation processes. The M.A (PPLG) Program is very innovative in the sense that it helps the students to seek practical knowledge, hence job-oriented in the fields of Government, non-governmental and private sectors, particularly at executive level. The department is the brainchild of the eminent scholars like Prof. Kuldeep Mathur, Former Director, Centre for the Study of Law and Governance, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi) and Prof. I.Ramabrahmam, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Odisha, Koraput.

The faculty are highly qualified, drawn from reputed institutes of the university in the countries. The faculty has international exposure. The department has the honour to have coordinated a National Resource Centre (NRC) for Annual Refresher Program in Teaching (ARPIT) in Public Policy and Administration.

The Department is well-equipped with advanced research infrastructures. 

The Department is having an advanced Computer Lab with 25 Computers well-connected with Internet facilities. These computers are integrated with SPSS, STATA quantitative softwares. Students usually use these Lab to experiment with their social sciences research in the preparation of Doctoral Thesis and Masters' Dissertations. Besides, they get facilities of many e-learning facilities in the Research Lab. Several online resources such as J-STOR and online resources from established publishers are available through the Research Lab as provided by University Library.

Teachers also use these Research Lab of the Department to provide their critical research inputs to the students.

Department is also having a well-advanced seminar hall cum classroom to facilitate online teaching facilities.

 

 

Department of Public Policy, Law and Governance is one of the very progressive departments in the School of Social Sciences as regards getting projects from external agencies. Nearly 50% of the total Project Money of the School is with the Department Faculty Members. The Faculty Members have received funds from UGC, ICSSR, the National Commission of Women (NCW), IMPRESS-ICSSR. Besides, Several Faculty Members in their academic journey have managed research projects from prestigious international agencies like UN, OXFAM, WaterAid, CDKN, IDRC-Canda, Ethiopian Civil  Services University, etc.

Some of the projects completed and ongoing are:

Dr. C. Jeevan Kumar (2018-20) received Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Major Research Project, title: “Digital Governance in India: A Case Study of Rajasthan with reference to Digital India Programme”, Project Duration 2 years (2018-20) with Total Budget of Rs. 6.5 Lakhs.

Dr. Gyana Ranjan Panda, The Study of Gender Biases in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): Gender Audit of State Universities in Rajasthan. Status: Completed. Donor: National Commission for Women. Position: Principal Investigator. Funding Amount: 3.33 lakhs.
